EMII Seminar
September 21st - 22nd 2000 Centre de Recherche et de
Restauration de Musées de France Musée du Louvre, Paris
The two days of the seminar were divided into three distinct themes:
Business Meeting, Working Groups and Guest Speakers. The Seminar commenced on
Thursday 21st September with an EMII Business Meeting restricted to partners.
This was the first time partners had been brought together to compare and
exchange views and experiences.
Partners guests joined us for lunch in
Les cafes des Pyramides within the Louvre. The afternoon started with a progress
report from Rosa Botterill, Standards Co-ordinator summarising the work to date
and providing a context for the Working Groups. The three working groups met
for two hours before re-convening in the lecture theatre to present a summary of
their conclusions and any outstanding issues.
Day one concluded in the
evening with the Seminar Dinner held at Le Ziryab, L'Institute du monde arabe.
We were joined by EMII guests on day two in addition to partners
guests. The proceedings commenced with an informative welcome by our host venue.
This was followed by Christina Brown, EMII Standards Assistant, who presented a
paper 'What's in a Survey? Interpreting the European Standards Survey'. This was
the first time the results and analysis of the survey had been presented to the
EMII partners collectively.
Jeanne Hogenboom, Netherlands partner and chair of Working Group 1:
Collections Management Standards in Europe, presented a summary of the
previous days Working Groups. Jeanne's comments provided a thoughtful
introduction to the programme of guest speakers.
The Seminar
formally concluded with a Lunch Reception to mark the first year of the EMII
network held at the Salon des Maréchaux, Palais Royal, Ministère
de la culture et de la communication. Participants were also able to join one of
three post seminar tours:
- Centre de Recherche et de Restauration de Musées de France Musée
du Louvre
- Musée de la Publicité: Union centrale des arts décoratifs
- Inventaire Général
We are grateful for the generous support and assistance in the organisation
of the seminar given by the Direction des musées de France.
